The Call of SSSSSsssugar.

My story isn’t original. In fact, most of us have experienced this or know people who go through this struggle. In high school I was always active by playing sports – quite the athlete, if I may say so myself. You know, volleyball all four years, swimming, skiing, biking, and so on. While I always ate a lot, I could easily control my weight just by how active I was. Yet it wasn’t until college that my unhealthy eating habits struck hard.

Despite going to a private college which has the largest contiguous land area in America (Berry College), and where walking from my dorm to class was about a 1/2 mile walk. (Trust me, I despised it! Not only that, but the deer stared at you!!!) Yet despite all the activity, I still managed to gain the dreaded ‘FRESHMEN 15’!!! The availability of fresh pizza and daily sugar cookies had me hooked, lined, and sunk! Yet when I came home for the summer, I knew I could loose the weight since my family ate fairly healthy but our portion sizes were out of control. Overall, I managed to lose 10 lbs and keep the extra 5lbs. Then I decided to take off a semester and got a temp job….  Oh dear, the real world struck hard! In my despair, I turned to the daily treats offered by the company and soon the ‘lost 10 lbs’ were found and let me tell you…I gave them a good home! Well, back to college and I only have one semester left till graduation. Yet I’m technically 10 pounds overweight, hold an addiction to coffee, and struggling to get loose the extra 20 pounds I had gained throughout my college experience.

The issue? I’m slightly enamored with my lovely white pasta and sugar! Ok, so the pasta hasn’t been the huge issue, rather it’s the CALL OF WHITE SUGAR!!! Yum! I can write an ode to it.  For instance, despite eating healthy for the last two weeks, my sister baked a delicious key lime pie yesterday. As there are currently 4 people living in the house it would be divided into quarters. Yet somehow I ate half of the pie…and there is still a quarter left. (Midnight snack anyone?)

So I’m going on a trek…a mission…a goal – and kicking my bad habits to the curb in order to be healthy and fit! Weight loss isn’t necessarily my goal, rather knowing what is going in my body is clean and pure.

Thus, I want to hear what people’s food weaknesses are and how you are kicking them! Is it through detox? Cleaning out your fridge? How do you do it when others in the house continue to eat the same while you’re trying to change? Let’s hear it!!
